Understanding Strongholds

A friend of mine recently told me that every time negative thoughts try to set up camp in her mind, she would switch her thoughts to the scripture and positivity. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me — put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you” (Phil 4:8-9 NIV).

A stronghold is a place where a particular cause or belief is strongly defended or upheld. Satan’s goal is to flood your mind with a mirage of fake information. If you allow him, Satan will build strongholds in your minds with lies to attempt to influence you to make unwise decisions. False information opens the gates to bitterness, lust, fears, depression, anger, anxiety, or illnesses, and that just some of Satan’s tools chest. Scripture tells us, “Neither give place to the devil” (Eph 4:27).

As believers in Christ, we tear down strongholds with truth of God’s word, (2 Cor. 10:4-5). Often, we need to speak our victory aloud. Let the enemy hear your Godly confession. He can’t read your mind, and by speaking the truth aloud you let the devil know where you stand and will transform your mindset with truth. “Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You will be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you” ((Romans 12:2 Message Bible).
