Jesus is the Reason for the Season
Everyone is hustling and bustling around looking for gifts to buy relatives, friends, and church family members, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I was in the nail salon yesterday and asked the manicurist if she was done with her shopping. Her face lit up as she told me that she completed her shopping in September because she hates crowds. A lot of people have that same mindset, especially with the recent rise in prices.
So many celebrate Christmas, but do they even know what Christmas celebration is all about? Two thousand years ago the greatest gift of all came into the world with the task of bringing salvation and wholeness to a dying humanity. His name is Jesus. When our children were small before we opened one gift my husband read the Christmas story despite our kids begging to open their gifts. Finally, my husband would finish, and they tore open their presents.
Every element of the very first Christmas was divinely orchestrated. Jesus came into the world at the right time, not a minute too soon or a minute too late. Jesus fulfilled many prophecies of the Old Testament. “Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel [God with us]” (Isaiah 7:14 KJV). Scriptures tells us His birthplace would be Bethlehem, emphasizing that from that humble town will come a ruler destined to shepherd Israel. (Micah 5:2) This highlights God’s sovereignty and significance of insignificant places.
Jesus was born in a manger - an animal trough - so He could touch humanity. He came humbly so that everyone reading of His birth would know that He is relatable to any and everyone. Jesus is THE Gift to the world. “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17 KJV).
