God’s Storehouse

In our weekly Women’s Bible Study, we have been reflecting on the wonder of God’s provision because of His unfailing love for His children. Yet sometimes we sink into despair and throw ourselves a pity party. When I think of this, I am reminded of the apostle Paul writing from a prison dungeon. In his letter to the believers in Philippi, Paul revealed that he had learned the secret of having a heart full of praise in every circumstance.

The Apostle Paul had peace and joy; what an incredible perspective from imprisonment for spreading the Gospel about Jesus. God gave him peace, his friends sent supplies, and his joy remained unmistakable despite his difficult circumstances.

God provided for Paul through the faithfulness and the generosity of the Philippians while he was in prison. And he trusted that the same God who cared for him would also care for his friends. He wrote, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ” (Philippians 4:19, NLT).

As a single parent raising children, my mother continually reminded us of God’s faithfulness and provision, and we grew up with this scripture: “I once was young and now am old, yet never have I seen the righteous abandoned or their children begging for bread” (Psalm 37:25).

Because Jesus already made the way, we can also draw from the storehouses of heaven. “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:26). Allow the Lord to be your provider (Jehovah Jireh), and do not allow anxiety about your circumstances to weaken or dominate your faith in God’s ability to care for and provide for every situation you encounter.
