Lord, Order My Steps
This is my personal prayer for 2023: “the LORD orders the steps of a good man:
and he delights in his way. Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down: for
the LORD upholds him with his hand. I have been young, and now am old; yet
have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
(Ps 37:23-25 KJV)
There is a song I love from the ‘African American Heritage Hymnal,’ #333, “Order
My Steps”, by Glenn Burleigh. It captures the heart of Psalm 119:133: “Direct my
footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.” I acknowledge that I do
not have the rights to this song, however it has blessed my life for many years.
Order my steps in your word dear lord
Lead me, guide me every day
Send your anointing, father I pray
Order my steps in your word
Please, order my steps in your word
Order my steps in your word dear lord
Lead me, guide me every day
Send your anointing, father I pray
Order my steps in your word
Please, order my steps in your word
Humbly, I ask thee to teach me your will
While you are working, help me be still
Satan is busy, God is real
Order my steps in your word
Please, order my steps in your word
Bridle my tongue let my words edify
Let the words of my mouth be acceptable in thy sight
Take charge of my thoughts both day and night
Order my steps in your word
Please order my steps in your word
I want to walk worthy (I want to walk worthy)
My calling to fulfill
Please order my steps lord (please lord)
And I’ll do your blessed will
The world is ever changing (the world is ever changing)
But you are still the same
If you order my steps lord, I’ll praise your name.
There is so much more to this song. So much more to sing with words to help us
daily ask God to order our steps whether on the job, in our home, in our church, or
around others. Allow 2023 be a new start in our lives because the Word of God
says, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory:
no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts,
blessed is the man that trusts in thee. (Ps 84:11-12 KJV)
So, 2023 looks like a powerful year in which I will open my eyes every morning
and tell God that I give Him permission to move in my life as He so wills. This
year many things may be happening around us, but the key to success is what is
happening within us! WALK FREE IN 2023!
