The Powerful Name of Jesus
When you think you cannot go on Jesus wants you to call His name. I lost half my family in a house fire in the mid-sixties when I was a teenager. As I looked out the neighbor’s window, I saw flames dancing against the midnight sky on that cold December night. We had to call on JESUS to help us through this horrible tragedy. No individual could understand our family’s loss. It didn’t matter how hard they tried to console us; the only true consolation was calling on the strength of Jesus.
God’s Word promises us, “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with Him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him” (Psa. 91:15 KJV). If ever there was a time my family and I needed to be engulfed in the presence of the Lord, that was it. Bad things do happen to good people, or I should say bad things do happen to Christians. The phrase "I will never leave you nor forsake you" is God’s promise found in several places in the Bible, including the Old and New Testaments. It is a message of God's faithfulness and assurance of His presence and support for His people.
One of the most well-known instances of this promise is found in Deuteronomy 31:6: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; HE will never leave you nor forsake you.” The phrase “I will never leave you” is a common theme throughout the entire Bible. It is forever true that we have the promise of God’s constant presence and protection, even in difficult times.
Let’s pray: Dear Lord, You have told us that in this world we will have tribulation, but also promised that You have overcome the world. Thank You that, in the good times and the difficult times, we can lean on Your love, grace, and mercy. In Jesus’ powerful name we pray, amen.
