Hold to His Unchanging Hand
I often look around at the changes that are taking place in our world today. When my mom and I would talk on the phone I would say, “Mom, this is not taking God by surprise.” God commands our confidence in Him. With all the chaos, unsettling, and uncertainty from one day to the next it behooves us to hold fast to His unchanging hand. When I meet other believers and the subject comes up about the condition of our world, I like to tell them it is not who we are but WHOSE we are in Christ.
Years ago, I remember a song that says, “On Christ the solid rock I stand; all other ground is sinking sand.” The world is swimming in an ocean of opinions, fake news, wars on many fronts, government upheaval, and the list goes on. I live in Seattle where it is known to be quite rainy, but it is important to look past those clouds – situations - and see the SON.
“You do not know the first thing about tomorrow. You are nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, ‘If the Master wills it and we're still alive, we'll do this or that’” (James 4:14-15 Message Bible). “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, ‘If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that’” (James 4:14-15 KJV).
The tide of an ocean comes onto shore, then goes out to sea again and again, the same routine three-hundred sixty-five days a year. We do not know what will happen tomorrow, but one thing for sure is that we know who holds tomorrow. “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Heb. 13:8 KJV).
