Bless or Judge
Growing up we lived in an abusive environment. After my mom divorced my stepdad we didn’t always have enough money. The rest of the family pitched in as much as they could but it was hard to support a family of eight. When the cabinets were empty mom prayed for food and soon there would be a knock at the door with someone bringing a meal. At other times, there was no one at the door except for big bags of groceries; I don’t mean two little plastic bags, but big shopping bags for food. Our neighbors chose to bless us in our time of need instead of judging us for being needy. It wasn’t long after that did our family begin to prosper.
When you see or hear of another believer suffering for whatever reason, do you bless or judge? Here is a thought I would like to share with you: Have you arrived perfect? To some, ‘perfect’ is when God tells you, “WOW, you’re going to church with imperfect people, but you made it. You don’t smoke, chew tobacco, or hang with those who do.” Are you perfect in your words, deeds, and how you treat others, or do you seek God in every situation? Do you gossip or belittle others who are less fortunate, or do you ask how you can help? And when you are blessed, do you look down upon those in need, or do you reach out with a helping hand to make your blessing their blessing as well?
Little do we realize how badly we need one another in the body of Christ. Maybe the person you sat next to in church is not to your liking; they get on your nerves and vice versa. But don’t let others hinder you from missing what God has for you. Stop looking at their weaknesses and shortcomings and focus on the message that can change your heart.
Every January, many people make new year’s resolutions (which may last approximately two weeks if the temperature outside is favorable). This year, make 2025 your turning point to be a blessing and not a judge. Be an intentional blessing without broadcasting what you have done for others. “God Loves a giving heart” (Proverbs 11:24-25 NKJV).
